Poll on whether teachers should be able to carry concealed handguns

Wisconsin state Representative proposes letting teachers carry concealed handguns.

In the wake of school shootings in Wisconsin, Colorado and Pennsylvania during the last two weeks, a Wisconsin state legislator said he plans to introduce legislation that would allow teachers, principals, administrators and other school personnel to carry concealed weapons.

Rep. Frank Lasee, R-Bellevue, said Wednesday that, while his idea may not be politically correct, it has worked effectively in other countries.

"To make our schools safe for our students to learn, all options should be on the table," he said. "Israel and Thailand have well-trained teachers carrying weapons and keeping their children safe from harm. It can work in Wisconsin." . . .

The above link has the poll.

I get a real kick out of this quote in that article:

"In the country we live in, we have a lot of freedom," Pochowski said, "and we have to expose ourselves to some danger to keep that."

Maybe this is lost on Pochowski, but the restriction on the right to carry a gun is a restriction on freedom. Essentially he is saying that we need to expose ourselves to danger in order to hold onto our restrictions on civil liberties.

I have a better idea, why don't we have MORE civil liberty and thereby also have MORE safety. Sounds like a win-win situation to me.

Hopefully by next year it won't matter... that is if Wisconsin finally adopts CCW for all law-abiding citizens without any school-zone strings attached.

Dump Doyle!

I find it alarming that there is a roughly 50/50 split in that poll...many thousands of people have voted, and half of them are stupid enough to believe that gun prohibition works.

A sad reflection on the people...the Founding Fathers would be ashamed of us.

@ Anonymous:

I had the opposite reaction. I was relieved to see that half the people who voted aren't domesticated. I was afraid it would have been at least 75/25 in favor of sheep.

This is a good sign, people are waking up and thinking twice about what guns are really about.

Dear Rail:

I agree with you. My guess is that seven or eight years ago the poll would have been much worse.
