Louisiana considers letting permit holders carry guns on college campuses

Proposed state legislation would make it legal for some students and faculty to carry handguns on college campuses as a “deterrent” against the wave of college shootings in Baton Rouge and nationwide.

State Rep. Ernest Wooten, R-Belle Chasse, is proposing the controversial bill that could arm more people on campuses from dormitories to classrooms.

“We’ve got a problem,” Wooten said, “and maybe it’ll be a deterrent if one of these disturbed persons or whackos thinks, ‘If I go in shooting, they may shoot back.’” . . .

The state’s list of “firearm-free zones” includes schools and colleges. A Louisiana resident must be at least 21 years old to apply for a concealed handgun permit. . . .

"maybe it'll be a deterrent."

well, no, and if that's the sole yardstick, this will not go over well if another massacre incident is not stopped short by a civilian with a firearm, because that just gives feedstock to the anti-rights campaign and its blind, gun-fearing bandwagoners.

it's just as dangerous to write the law such that it allows guns and bank on the right people actually being armed as it is to write the law to disallow guns and bank on the wrong people actually being unarmed.

another massacre under these laws and the grabbers will cry, "see? it didn't work! ban guns!" poor mr. lott will have to write another book.
