Obama shifts ending secret vote for union elections into high gear

The WSJ has this:

President Barack Obama's public backing this past week of a bill that would make union organizing easier is driving companies to step up opposition.

Mr. Obama embraced the Employee Free Choice Act, a top legislative priority for unions, in a video address to the AFL-CIO winter meeting on Tuesday in Miami. It was one of his most vocal statements in support of the bill, which would let workers opt for unionization simply by signing cards, rather than through secret-ballot elections. An election gives an employer the opportunity to campaign against a union.

Many companies have said the bill, likely to be introduced in coming weeks by congressional Democrats, would add to their costs while hurting their ability to boost productivity and keep their work forces flexible enough to respond to changing markets. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has said it will spend at least $10 million this year fighting it. . . . .

John, I keep reading these posts you have and hearing the news; I think this guy has lost it.

His mind has walked off the map.

How could anyone rationalize so much control and manipulation of other human beings to the extent of taking away their freedoms and free choice.

Not giving someone a choice is inherently manipulating and controlling the individual.

This guy is mentally ill at a very deep level.

I wish I could say I was being sarcastic.

This law is a good direction to take in changing on how to vote for a union. The other way- in signing a card prior to actually getting a vote, takes years to finally get a vote for a union. I think this decision by President Obama is on the mark coming from someone who has been involved with a company that was attempting to be unionized.

Weather you are pro union or anti union this is a terrible bill to have passed. It will hurt both employees and employers alike.
A secret ballot is the only fair way to see if a union is wanted. In jurisdictions were card signing is practiced there is far too much intimidation and coercion. Unions are far to fond of using strong arm tactics to be trusted with more power.

I think it is pretty ironic how people are already jumping on Obama's Bandwagon when it comes to Unions. Have people not read up on Obama's Proposal? Not only would this act give way to much power to the union it will also hurt small and large businesses. With the economy the way it is more companies will go out of business. This act will do nothing but create headaches.

Once you give any group too much power they will take advantage of it. I have been in union and on-union jobs. Yes unions are good but bad in various aspects to. A company should not be forced to vote and be known how they vote. People who do vote for the union will now harass these people who did not vote for a union since names will be known.

I believe there is much more to this bill then just ending secret ballots. Come on now. People can not be that naive.

If this passes we are in for ugly times in years to come. Go chamber of commerce. Fight this stupid act.
