Change in EU and US unemployment rates since January 2009

Since January 2009, the unemployment rates in many countries have gone up relatively little compared to ours. The US unemployment rate has risen by 1.4 percentage points. The data are available at Tradingeconomics.com.
Australia's has been flat, going from 4.9 to 4.9 percent
Japan's rose by just 0.3 percent
For the countries that I have for South America, the average unemployment rate weighted by population has fallen by 1.8 percentage points.

For the countries the European Union, the average unemployment rate weighted by population has risen by 1.286 percentage points.

My New York Post piece on explaining these relative changes is available here.
