Video of my appearance on Piers Morgan's Show on CNN last night

Real Clear Politics has this interesting section of the discussion here.  I hope that they don't mind me using their whole transcript here.
MORGAN: You just tried to make out, it's just an average old gun. He fired over 100 rounds and he killed 20 children. Twenty Children between five and 10. At what point do you gun lobby guys say, we get it? It's time for change?
LOTT: Right, it is time.
MORGAN: Time to do what?
LOTT: To get rid of some of these gun laws that cause --
MORGAN: To get rid of the gun laws?
LOTT: Look at what has happened, all these attacks this year have occurred where guns are banned. Look at the Aurora movie theater shooting.
MORGAN: What the hell has that got to do with it? Seriously? What has that got to do with it?
LOTT: You never let me explain. Can I say something?
MORGAN: -- gun-free zone.
LOTT: Look at the movie theater one, for example. There were seven movie theaters showing the movie "Batman" movie within a 20 minute drive of where the killer lived. Only one of those banned guns. He didn't go to the movie theater closest to his home. He didn't go to the movie theater with the largest screen. He went to the one movie theater that banned guns.
Now if you look at bans generally, you can't point to a place, Chicago, D.C., where we ban guns -- murder rates and violent crimes went up afterwards. In the U.K. and Jamaica, Ireland, island nations that have banned guns -- you can't find a place where murder rates have actually gone down. They have gone up usually by large amounts.
Mediaite.com has a discussion on the segment of the show here.  Remember my last appearance with Piers Morgan available here.

Reminder about what has happened to murder rates in places that have banned guns.  Here is picture from Israel that might be useful.

John Fund has an interesting piece on public mass shootings here.

I can't believe you went back on his show after how he treated you last time. You have far more patience than I do...

Any chance of you updating the data on this article? This is very useful information but some of the statistics need to be updated.

Mental midgets like Morgan make a living off of viewer and reader ignorance.

Individuals that carry out mass shootings do not appear to be interested or expect to survive. Their objective seems to be to inflict as much damage as possible on people confined in a relatively small space. Adding guns to the movie theater shooting in Aurora would have likely increased injury and death due to crossfire. The motives of armed individuals differ and your ideas about gun free zones seem predicated on deterrence based on avoidance of death that does not seem to be a concern of mass killers as opposed to criminals who use firearms instrumentally in robbery for example. Conflating these groups is a mistake I believe.

John Lott needs to go on unfriendly shows. I heard a couple of his interviews on the Mark Levin show and WMAL radio, and while the hosts will allow him to make his statements, he is for the most part preaching to the choir.

Despite having Morgan and two other weenies shouting over Mr. Lott, some of his words were able to make it over the clatter, and it is the only chance for the viewers to actually hear some unreported facts, and maybe some of them might actually begin to believe a door sticker of a gun in a circle with a diagonal line through it may not be the best protection for the children behind those doors.

Bonus: The viewer also sees Morgan and company acting like a group of spoiled kids where, without guests like Lott, they would simply appear to be a mutual admiration society, throwing out, unchallenged, one bumper-sticker slogan after another.

As an aside, I am the proud owner of an autographed 1st edition hardcover copy of More Guns, Less Crime.

John, You must have a high tolerance for pain and stupidity!

I don't get how the Empire State Bld. shooting a while back, where cops' lack of shooting proficiency was aptly demonstrated, is somehow proof that we should put even more trust/faith in cops protecting us by banning guns among regular citizens? How does that make any sense to anyone?

Two pro-gun guests, two anti-gun guests and a viciously anti-gun host. That's the Communist News Network's idea of balance. Once they've largely disarmed America, they'll likely skip the two pro-gun guests and just have five anti-gunners go at it.
The only law that makes a difference in theses situations is one that allows law-abiding people to return fire. It's called the Second Amendment, and where it is disrespected is where these massacres occur.
Teachers can teach while carrying a concealed handgun. We don't need a massive and expensive government program to pay armed guards to sit around and wait for an attack. We just need to recognize the wisdom of the Second Amendment and allow people their natural freedom to protect themselves. That should be easy to do, now that we just saw what happens when the Second Amendment is ignored, and people pretend that they're safe.

The idea that allowing kindergarten teachers to pack heat would prevent this from happening is absurd. Would you rely on an untrained volunteer for personal security? There should be 1)armed professional security guards at schools, and 2)restricted access to semi-automatic weapons and high-capacity magazines, including a sales ban and a buyback program. By restricting access to guns, we increase the likelihood that the good guy has more firepower than the bad guy. Isn't that what we all want? Or is your goal to maximize personal freedom regardless of the innocent lives lost? BTW, your Australia stats are BS.

The death toll by guns in Australia dropped after they banned guns following the massacre in Port Arthur 1996.

How many children have tot die before something changes in America?

Once again I see that no one, and I mean no one, has even discussed the root cause of this latest shooting.

Politicians, and certain companies keep clearly defining specific areas as 'Gun Free Zones'. They make very sure that everyone knows these places and people are defenseless. They do so willingly, deliberately, and with full knowledge of the history of public shootings that only occur in these areas. They are very aware that Norman the Nutjob will bypass anything that has even the most basic impediment to achieving success, and go directly to the gun free zones.

WHY? Why in the world would any sane individual knowingly set up a defined space so that people can be killed without impediment?

Time for Occam's Razor...

There must exist a reason for these decisions to create gun free zones.

They are going for a desired effect to achieve a goal.

The goal is to create a situation that gives them an excuse to further their power over others, by disarming them.

Michigan just passed a law that would allow CPL holders (with 8 hours of class in addition to their previous training) to legally carry concealed in 'Gun Free Zones' such as schools, hospitals, churches and stadiums, etc. The aforementioned is an excellent deterrent and a message to Norman the Nutjob, that we will protect ourselves, and our most treasured resource. Our Children.

The ones who do not want this Bill signed are the very same folks who create the 'Gun Free Zones'.

If certain folks expended as much energy on improving Mental Health Care as they do on gun control and Gun Free Zones, we just might have a safer society...

"The idea that allowing kindergarten teachers to pack heat would prevent this from happening is absurd."

The idea of disallowing everyone, by law, from having a gun is what was tried, and we see the result.
No one, no administrator, teacher, school nurse, janitor, secretary, parent or anyone else was allowed to have a gun at that school. The gun controllers got the total ban on school property that they wanted, but killers are highly mobile, aren't they? School property gun ban laws are only pretend ban laws, until a killer shows up, and then they are no laws at all - just defenseless dead people to help the communist/liberal gun ban agenda. I am fed up with leftist gun banners getting the gun bans and resultant body counts that they want to advance their totalitarian control agenda! We need our gun rights back so we can defend ourselves and our children!
